It’s hard to know with any certainty how much of an impact your best efforts will make upon the communities you aim to serve. Over the past several weeks The Joy Trip Project has worked in collaboration with a variety of different organizations to raise awareness for the importance of diverse and equitable access to the outdoors. Through the power of film and storytelling, both at live events and online presentations, our cohort of professionals has directly engaged with audiences who we hope will not only work to protect the natural environment for themselves, but for the benefit of others.
Currently, there are a few exciting articles and opportunities presented by the Joy Trip Project worth looking at.
The Joy Trip Project 4th annual National Park Pass Giveaway is dedicated to the enduring service of National Park Ranger Betty Reid Soskin. In celebration of her 102nd birthday we are giving away free National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands visitors passes. The America the Beautiful pass gives entry into most national parks and monuments across the country. This gift is offered to anyone who can use one but may not, for whatever reason, purchase one for themselves. The only catch is that person must be nominated by someone else. Nominations to receive this gift will be open until October 18, 2023. The recipients will be announced on November 1, 2023.

On Thursday September 21, 2023 The Joy Trip Reading Project hosted an online discussion with Baratunde Thurston, author of “How To Be Black”. The video of this conversation is now available on YouTube.
Thurston tells a better story of us, weaving together threads of race, technology, democracy and climate through his work as an Emmy-nominated host, producer, writer, and public speaker. He is the host and executive producer of the PBS television series America Outdoors with Baratunde Thurston, creator and host of How To Citizen with Baratunde which Apple named one of its favorite podcasts of 2020, and a founding partner of the new media startup Puck. His comedic memoir, How To Be Black, is a New York Times best-seller.
